MEN’S AND WOMEN’S RECORDS LOWERED – AGAIN!

Hi all,

Grey skies and rain were the order of the day for February’s race, with the rain abating for the race, but leaving its legacy of a muddy, slippery route. This made the efforts of BR’s Annabel Hagon and Dave Allen even more outstanding. Both BR records and all-comer’s records were broken by David and equalled by Annabel, with Annabel being the worthy winner by just one second over appropraitely named scratch runner, Ian Treadaway.

The top three was completed with Michel Serre, with Dave coming in third, for the 22nd running of the event.

The organisers promoted a dual with Fulham’s Alain Faure, starting from the back, but with David on fire, he took the all-comer’s record from Alain by some margin. Annabel knocked 28 secs off her last time, with David taking 12 secs off his best. With the conditions as they were, there must surely be scope to take more time off these records.

Welcome to the BRH newcomers, Ian Treadaway, Dave Lovell, Jo Patience, and very fast runner from W4, Isobel Rea from W4, who unfortunately took a wrong turn on the course. And welcome back to John Chambers from Fulham and Gary Robinson from W4.

We hope that we’ll see you all again next month.

Many thanks to the helpers today - Ella, Rob and Sue, who stood down from running duties for the day.

Best wishes,
THE HANDICAP TEAM

Valentine’s Day (semi-)Marathon Training Run

Arragements are in place for a group of us to leave Rose House at 09h00 on Sunday 14 February for a longer-than-usual run.

Details of the intended route can be found at http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=3470388. Note that the “apparent” total distance is 22.5 km. Bear in mind that I have had to plot relatively straight lines across stretches that can only really be negotiated via the (at times) circuitous paths of Richmond Park and Wimbledon Common. Also consider the deviation on the tow path at Kew. What this essentially means is that the “real distance” is probably going to be in excess of 24 km. People interested in covering even greater distances can cross the river (Thames) at Chiswick Bridge and continue along Chiswick Mall up to Hammersmith Bridge. They can then return to Barnes via Lonsdale Road / Castelnau.

Sunday morning’s weather predictions are exactly that – predictions. But as I write, thin white cloud is forecast for early in the morning, with a maximum daytime temperature of 5°C. Winds should be north-north-westerly at speeds of approximately 7 km/h. Humidity, pressure and visibility will be 94%, 1016 mb and moderate, respectively. We shall not need sunscreen.

It would be appreciated if you could let me know whether or not you are intending to come.

We shall meet at 8:55 AM in Rose house for a 9:01 AM departure.

Josh

P.S. You may like to consider bringing some water and/or energy gels with you.

Handicap Race – SATURDAY 30 JANUARY

Don’t miss the first BARNES RUNNERS Handicap Race of 2010

SATURDAY 30 JANUARY …. meeting at the Barnes Elms Race track.

Registration from 8.20am,  closes 8.45am, race starts 9.00am

For running track location, click here.

The race is just under 7k (4.2miles) consisting of two laps of Barn Elms with start and finish at the running track at Barn Elms.  If you have never run the handicap before, or have only run it once in your lifetime, or you haven’t run for more than a year, then you will be a “scratch” runner on Saturday.  This means that you are running to establish your legitimate start time using an estimate of your handicap that we have calculated using a time-tested formula. Scratch runners run the same course and are in the same race, they just don’t win prizes or score points.

(You need to complete two scratch runs before we can determine your pace, after which you’ll be competing on the same level as other competitors, winning points, fame, glory…… and possibly a cup of lush coffee in KARAVAN, opposite L’Amandine.

If you are not a scratch runner, please fly the club colours and wear your BR shirt.

See you Saturday!
